A family of four is suddenly sealed inside their house with no way out and must work together to survive against both their dwindling resources and the mysterious, looming threat that is keeping them trapped.

Fantastic young actors and the incrediblly soulful pair of Wagner Moura and Greta Lee can’t keep this script from drowning.

Short scenes and quick edits never let the audience feel the family’s sense of isolation.

FINAL COMMENTS:
The Last House was scooped up by Netflix, which means you’ll likely see it on a relatively small screen. The film was shot on IMAX, a medium designed to thrill you, make you feel uncomfortable, and fill you with fear. Watching it on a small screen versus IMAX is the difference between seeing a sleepy lion at the zoo and running acrossa hungry one in a dark alley.
The Last House is good enough to give you a couple hours of comfy, couch-bound entertainment. It’s not a great film —the imagination in its execution can’t match the imagination of its incredible premise—but it’s hard not to imagine what its life might have been like had it been let loose to bare its fangs and scream into the wild.
