FILM NERD STUFF:   B

CGI’s quality continues to evolve.

ONE BIG LESSON:   B

Tech can’t replace human relationships, but it can help if used responsibly..

FINAL COMMENTS:

The first four films feel like fables, their existential perils rooted in nature. There’s no escaping the aging process or human nature. This movie gives off PSA vibes because this threat— technology —is different, one we brought on ourselves. Too often you can hear the sub-text warning us, “Get off of my lawn!”

That doesn’t make Toy Story 5 a bad movie. This play date will delight fans of the franchise, even if it follows the familiar formula. It still works. The new characters are a blast, and the film invites parents to start important conversations about the role of technology with their kids.
